ASD VERBAL/NON VERBAL STUDENTS STRATEGIES

According to Wikepedia "Nonverbal autism. Nonverbal autism is a subset of autism where the person is unable to speak. While most autistic children eventually begin to speak, there is a significant minority who will remain nonverbal.". It means that these groups of students are very special and they really need our attention as teachers.

However, we as teachers need give our attention to all the students in the class. So how do we handle ASD non verbal learners. We need to take some time as teachers to walk in their shoes and learn how to amend of presence in their life .

I would love to share the vital 7 strategies that are very useful in getting ourselves as teachers closer to them. I will attach the website links in my google drive folder for teachers to click and view. The website explains in detail each of the strategies. It will be a good reading.

In addition , Dear teachers we also use the flashcards below either we paste in on our students book and when they need they will use to interact with use by pointing. If we put more effort we learn and try to interact and the students will start to communicate too.

I have attached some of my resources in my Google drive link for teachers to view. It is all taken online as we are teachers we are busy and ready aids are always useful. There resources provides us with:

signs to express feelings
general flashcards
signs for greetings
communicative/signsflashcards/signs
indicating time
listing the strategies + how to apply in the classroom
more ideas on how to keep ADHD students going)
guideline to prepare worksheets for ADHD students
guide on how to understand ADHD students)

Furthermore, we also use pictures and images of toilet drinking bottle pencil books and many more and we paste it in the students book and we train the student in a friendly manner to use the pictures to communicate with us.

We also always call their name and make them feel important. We use the students as role model and we encourage other students to follow him/her and soon they will develop love for each other.

We also use sensory activities more often to encourage a more fun and interactive class where ASD students can actively participate and also communicate.
I will also attach the sensory motor websites in my Google drive link too for teachers to view.

It all depends on we teachers how we help our learners. They are all different.

We even use videos everytime we present our lesson to catch students especially ASD non verbal students because they love visual just like all.

All are special and gifted.:)
