LOVE WATER

After deeply studying the emotion theories, shifting the essay focus now into intelligence theories. The studies associating intelligence has been carried out from various perspectives. During the early period, an academic called Spearman (1923) advanced the idea of ‘g’ or also known as general intelligence since he believed that intelligence is mainly concerning the standard (model) function of the brain and not individual disparity in mental aptitude (Webb 2000).This thought of ‘g’ was examined using on many different features, such as spatial, time, attribution, likeness, evidence, identity and etc and most of it moderately saturated with the ‘g’ factor analyzed. Thus the theorist idea attested that, general intelligence or the ‘g’ element seems to be over-arching the levels of human intelligence (Sternberg 2000). Similar to this but somewhat faintly adapted, an academic named as Thurstone (1938) proposed the ‘theory of primary mental abilities’ (Sternberg,2000:429) underlying nine autonomous aspects that are ‘..number, verbal comprehension , induction, deduction, arithmetic reasoning, word fluency, space and perceptual speed’ (ibid ,2000:429). The theorist experimented with 250 college students and 700 eighth grade children on 56 tests. The empirical data verified that all the nine factors were present and mostly correlated like the test of induction regarding box design laden on induction as well as spatial. Hence, he diverged from Spearmen (1923) and affirming that there aren’t a one general essential thing ‘g’ for all intelligence levels but there are several ‘co-equal factors’ determining intelligence (Wagner ,1994 :41).

I shared a snapshot of my research write up experiment and I feel it closely relates with my students because I need to take into account they intelligence level and I need to modify my teaching methodology based on their level.

Dear teachers lets make this topic interesting for students by playing videos with picture and some simple explanation on each part of water.

I will attach some videos on the topic of water.

The video is introducing WATER SONG↑

The video is about WATER CYCLE↑

 SAFE WATER INDOOR

All the videos will be replacing me when I teach and I realized that students learnt faster and better. Another significant aspect is that it changed the cultural perspectives of Malaysian society where traditionally teachers are seen to be role models for teaching only but now the society tends to portray teachers as the students’ guide , administration supporter in managing administration issues and social workers, working with the society, as seen by Mia Emly’s research (1998-1995) which clearly illustrates the increase in teachers roles in the world’s formal education, including Malaysia. Thus as a language teacher, I would have multiple roles to ensure and promote integration between students and globalization. Therefore when the videos take over my role as a teacher, I can become more connected with my students and focus on motivating them and eliciting ideas as they watch.
