Phonics are basically sounds of words and I always associate Phonics with THE SCIENTIFIC INQUIRY MODEL. This is because students are experimenting sounds and identifying them.
In order words, teachers want students to be scientifically literate the sounds so that learners can then implement in understanding words. To me whenever I am teaching Phonics I feel like the learners are doing a scientific experiment whereby they are engaged by scientifically orientated questions (Phonic questions), learners giving priority to evidence (phonic symbols), learners formulate explanations from evidence as in trying to figure out the sound with symbols, learners evaluate explanation as in try to comprehend why certain words sound as it is and why certain words sound differently and lastly learners use the metacognitive mind to communicate and justify the words sounds that they hear, symbols they see and words they pronounce.
While searching for resources online I came upon a few website links that is very useful for me. I would love to share those phonic resources with teachers.
Teachers below are some amazing websites that teachers can explore to find:
- phonic teaching ideas/lessons
- sound videos
- phonic games
The websites are for pre school, kindergarten, first grade, second grade, learning words and sounds, and phonic lesson plans.
