PROMOTING DIVERSITY IN THE CLASSROOM

The personal family models include models that develop individual student abilities. These models stress the development of a positive self-concept. They help students develop better emotional health.’ In simple words, this model emphasize on learners as in it permits them to obtain empathy towards others and self-confidence.

CLIL approach does instill intercultural knowledge and understanding in classrooms. This can be done because it promotes multicultural policies since most cultural knowledge are embedded in authentic contents and these contents can be thought using the combination of LI and L2. Subsequently, through the advancement of multimedia (blended learning) like using Web Quest to introduce native speakers while teaching also provides learners with the opportunity to widen their communication barrier where learners can understand their culture as well as others.

In contrast, CLIL approach does enlighten cultural aspects yet as mentioned the Transmission model’ culture tends to be very strong in Malaysian context ,so as language teacher, I would prefer to slightly amend CLIL into PPP by implementing language switch between various stages which is does not automatically become CLIL but eventually nurturing it.

I would like to reinforce this model again because there are many students from various background culture race and religion. It is really nice to know each other and share with each other the cultural diversities.

Dear, teachers I would like to share interesting videos to watch and share with students.

To address diversity in classroom, teachers can click on the video below to get some ideas:

Teachers can present the videos above↑ as a warm up activity

The videos above bring in nevertheless, the student-centered approach in teaching and learning can’t be implemented fully in schools due to Malaysian educational policy of being too exam orientated and teachers are mostly dependent on literal textbook materials in teaching and if they want to modify it they have to design from scratch. Consequently, I believe that, CLIL can still be used by integrating it into PPP approach where language learning is balanced between learning (teacher) and acquisition (students) during production.
