While marking the PT3 writing paper , four important components are tested. They are Content, Communicative Achievement, Organization and Language. Each of the components are given 5 marks (UCLES,2014) In sum, in learning writing, secondary students are required to score in all these four components in their writing.

Four components are tested in the pt3 examination that are Grammar, Gapped text, Reading, Writing ,Speaking and Listening.

The grammar component is referred to error identification exercises
The gapped text are referred to reading component under the reading paper.
The writing component has two sections one is Short Communicative Message and Note Expension.

Going into deeper with the writing component Studies done by Koo Lie Yie Lee (2012) showed that in Malaysian Form 1 classrooms majority of Form 1 students learn writing thorough writing materials which are mostly exam orientated like model essays. In support to this, Hasan and Akhand(2010) in their study also found that many Malaysian students study the model essay and mostly learnt it by heart . After that they tend to reproduce it or likely replicate the model.

Besides model essays, writing modules have also been used in teaching and learning writing as the whole world accepts modules as a learning tool and claims that it has a massive effect on students learning writing.
