Teaching English For Primary Students

Before I go into the post. I would like to highlight that we always practice memorization since small and to me I as a teacher I want to change. Lets get to know what is Memorization first.

Memorisation is one of the techniques used in remembering facts and information. It means that students will pay close attention to content and would likely try to memorise the content and later remember it.

Key terms and concepts pertaining to model

There are three different concepts that has a strong link with memorisation that are ‘retrieval cues’ ‘episodic cues’ and ‘categorical cuesA retrieval cue is a stimulus that helps you recall information from long-term memory’. In simple words, information stored in short-term memory becomes retrieval cue whereby it allows students to sort through their long term memories at later times to locate information. Episodic memory is a person’s unique memory of a specific eventIt refers to sequence of experiences exposed and stored in an individuals long-term memory. Episodic cues is crucial in order to remember past events and enable an individual to assume or predict future events based on the past experiences. Categorical cue is mental representations of groups of objects that share some set of commonalities’. To explain further, it deals with ‘conceptualising items by categorising whereby this cue allows an individual to differentiate, associate and discriminate between items orobjects or things into various categories. 

After reviving on this model I as a teacher decided to change my teaching methodology as in from just memorizing everything I want my primary students to start becoming interactive learners.I searched for various sources in the internet and I found this wonderful website.
