PULSE 2 VIDEOS FOR LISTENING PRACTICE

There are many reasons why Malaysian government stresses on learning English such as preparing Malaysian students for global job markets and being able to be linguistic equipped in order to be able to communicate either verbally or written globally. Moreover, the importance of learning English language for Malaysian students has also been highlighted through various Malaysian Ministry of Educations aims such as:

“to equip students with basic skills and knowledge of the English language so as to
enable them to communicate both orally and in writing, in and out of school.”
("Sukatan Pelajaran Kurikulum Bersepadu Sekolah Rendah Bahasa Inggeris," 200, p.
to extend students‟ English language proficiency in order to meet their needs to use
English in certain situations in everyday life, for knowledge acquisition, and for future
workplace needs.” ("Sukatan Pelajaran Kurikulum Bersepadu Sekolah Menengah
Bahasa Inggeris ", 2000, p. 2)„Upholding Bahasa Melayu and Strengthening English‟program during the Plan period (p. 201). (Ramiza,2013)In sum, the status of English language in Malaysian education system is still widely explored and strongly acknowledged since English language has occupied a distinguished position in Malaysian future education.

The education system in Malaysia is divided into 4 general stages which are preliminary, primary, lower secondary , upper secondary and higher institutions. Various stages have different English classroom context. However, the most crucial English language learning classroom context is during primary and secondary school whereby Malaysian students spend almost 12 years in primary and 4 years in secondary learning English language components;reading writing, listening and speaking.(Chan,2018). It is the longest period where students are exposed to English language learning. As () claimed that , “Malaysian students have longer exposure to learning English language in schools compared to learning in university” (Musa,2012.35). To this end, whenever , the Ministry of Education instills a new program or an objective for English schools classroom context , they always start from Primary One for ‘Sekolah Kebangsaan’ and Form One for ‘Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan’.(MoE,2015).
