LET’S SEE INTERMS OF THESE 4 ASPECTS CONTENT, ORGANISATION, COMMUNICATIVE ACHIEVEMENT AND LANGUAGE

·        Make sure all your points refer to the given statement

 

·        Provide at least 3 points

 

·        Make sure your points are clear either:

 

NEUTRAL 

you normally present both sides argument. Meaning partial stand. Discuss both sides. Maybe 2 points agree and 1 point disagree

 

* if you find it hard to be neutral you can also choose just 1 side also not wrong [based on mpm] refer teacher yenny

·        Give reasons and examples for each point

 

·        State personal opinion introduction as in {I…} and restate in conclusion as in {i…}

 

·        Don’t write points that do not relate to the given statement

 

·        Don’t make a vague stand

 

·        Don’t make it too personal as in express personal opinion too much

 

·        Don’t use personal examples

 

·        Don’t use data without proper referencing

ORGANISATION

·        Introduction -  hook, background of topic, can define the words in the statement, then state your stand and thesis statement (refer to other 7 ways to start an interesting intro)

 

·        Main body – begin  your viewpoint [ topic sentence] followed by reasons[elaboration] and last with examples

Try to provide a closure for each paragraph as in Hence……/ Thus…./ In sum…..

 

·        Conclusion- restate thesis statement, sum up all your points, reaffirm your stand,,wrap up

 

·        Introduce each point in a separate paragraph

·        Don’t write without paragraphs

 

·        Don’t write hanging paragraphs as in only viewpoints or only reasons or only examples.

COMMUNICATIVE ACHIEVEMENT

Use appropriate linking words to show the links between paragraphs, as well as to link sentences within paragraphs

 

In simple words :

Use linking words:

·        to start a new viewpoint

·        to  explain  reasons & stating examples

·        to show transition between paragraphs

 

Make sure markers can understand the flow of your essay.

 

·        Don’t just randomly write your viewpoints

 

 

LANGUAGE

·        Write in formal style,

·        Don’t use short forms

 

·        Don’t use informal style

 

·        Don’t use emotional language
