APTIS ADVANCED READING NOTES

Part 1

·       4 people share their opinions about a topic.

·       Read the 7 Wh questions and choose the right person who gave their opinion according to the question.

 

Part 2

·       We need to match the headings to the paragraphs.

·       Number of questions 7

·       8 headings; 1 will be the distractor

·       Headings refer to what the paragraphs are all about

·       We need to identify synonyms

 

TIPS

·       In the first paragraph as in the introduction,  the writer will normally talk about the topic- check in the heading for words indicating the topic.

 

·       The last paragraph will mostly be the conclusion where the writer will summarise all the points and indicate further suggestions, recommendations or forecasts- check in the heading for words indicating a conclusion.

 

·       The remaining paragraphs will indicate the content maybe we can read the first few sentences and the last few sentences to get a general idea of the paragraph and then choose a suitable heading.

 

Part 3

·       Read a short text with missing gaps

·       We need to choose a word or phrase that matches to complete the gap

TIP

Read the sentence before the gap and after the gap and then identify the right word or phrase to complete the gap.

·       Read two different texts with missing gaps

·       We need to choose the appropriate phrase that matches to complete the gap
